With promotional rules in the Magento online store, we can create a wide variety of promotions. We start with simple rules and continue with increasingly complex ones. The more knowledge we have, the more different promotions we can create. Just be careful not to make them so complex that your customers won't understand them.
In the system, we have two types of promotional rules and many options for preparing promotion conditions.
Catalog price rule
Catalog rules allow us to create promotions that are immediately visible in the catalog or product page. We can create a rule that all items in the Outlet category have a 10% discount or that all items that are blue are 1 euro less. With catalog rules, always be careful to activate the rules when you save them, otherwise they will not be visible.
Cart price rules
Unlike catalog rules, cart rules are visible when we add items to the cart. We have the option to activate them immediately or with the help of promotional coupons. Just like with the previous rules, we have different conditions that can determine when the rule is active, with even more options here, as we can also condition the rules with conditions such as delivery address, cart amount, etc.
In addition to the price of items, we can also determine free shipping, which is often used. For example, we can set that if the cart value is over 5 euros, the shipping is free.

The system also has some shortcomings, namely promotions that are determined based on the final price of the item and not on the regular price, so be careful not to further reduce already discounted items. Of course, such a situation can also be changed with an additional module. This way, we can add even more options to the promotional rules.
