CBD and hemp

With CBD, Shopify does not ban all at once - it takes it away step by step.

Hemp payments already run through third-party processors, and even compliant merchants report terminations without warning. We build and migrate your CBD store onto a self-hosted stack where you own the catalog, the customers and the payment setup.

CBD and hemp

Selling CBD on Shopify means renting a store that can close any day.

You can technically list hemp products on Shopify - but Shopify Payments, Stripe and PayPal won't process CBD at all, so you already depend on a third-party processor. And even fully compliant merchants, selling federally legal hemp under 0.3% THC, report account terminations with little warning. For CBD, this is not a one-time vape-style ban. It is a slow-motion one: you live one policy shift away from losing payments, your store, or both.

We build and migrate CBD and hemp stores onto a self-hosted stack where you own the catalog, the customer relationships and the payment setup - so no single provider can end your business.

Why CBD is a permanent risk on Shopify

  • Payments don't work natively. Shopify Payments does not support hemp, CBD or THC, so you must run a compatible third-party gateway just to take money.
  • Compliance is on you, enforced by them. Shopify requires an attestation, all applicable licenses, and under-0.3%-THC products - and can terminate for any perceived breach.
  • Marijuana and over-0.3% THC are fully banned under the Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Sudden shutdowns happen. Compliant CBD merchants have been given short notice to move an entire business elsewhere.

The pattern is the same as every rented platform: your category is tolerated until a policy or a payment partner decides it isn't.

What we migrate

Full CBD and hemp catalog, including:

  • CBD oil, tinctures and drops
  • CBD topicals, balms and creams
  • CBD cosmetics and skincare
  • CBD gummies and edibles
  • CBD capsules and softgels
  • CBD for pets
  • Hemp flower and full-spectrum / broad-spectrum ranges
  • Minor cannabinoids (CBG, CBN)

Plus customers, order history, reviews, content and SEO URLs with 301 redirects.

What you get on self-hosted (Magento / Adobe Commerce / Hyva)

  • Payment freedom. Connect CBD-friendly high-risk gateways directly. If one processor changes its mind, you switch - you don't lose the store.
  • You own the data. Customer list and order history live in your database.
  • Compliance built in. Age verification, COA / lab-result display, per-region shipping rules and disclaimers, handled the way regulators in each market expect.
  • EU and US ready. We handle multi-region setups, including EU rules such as novel food considerations and per-country legality.
  • A fast, brand-led storefront - CBD is a trust purchase, and a premium Hyva storefront converts better than a locked-down template.

Case study: hemptouch.com

hemptouch.com is a CBD and hemp cosmetics brand running on a self-hosted stack - proof that a regulated, global CBD store can operate on infrastructure the brand actually controls, instead of waiting for a payment partner or platform to change its mind.

  • SEO / organic search: hemptouch, the CBD and hemp brand we run on a self-hosted stack, sells worldwide through hemptouch.com, grows its organic search traffic and ranks on Google for competitive CBD and skincare terms - a regulated CBD store scaling on infrastructure it controls.

The point for a CBD merchant reading this: this is a live, working example of the exact thing you need - a compliant CBD store that no acceptable use policy can delist.

How the migration works

  1. Audit of your current store, catalog and payment setup.
  2. Full data migration with SEO-preserving redirects.
  3. Rebuild on Magento / Adobe Commerce / Hyva.
  4. CBD-friendly payments, age verification and compliance flows connected.
  5. Launch, hosting, maintenance and support.

Free migration on larger projects - ask us about absorbing the migration cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you sell CBD on Shopify?

You can list hemp-derived CBD under 0.3% THC if you meet Shopify's attestation and licensing rules, but Shopify Payments will not process CBD - you must use a third-party gateway - and accounts can still be terminated. That dependency is the risk we remove.

Why doesn't Shopify Payments support CBD?

Shopify Payments does not process hemp, CBD or THC products at all, so CBD merchants have to connect a compatible third-party processor. On a self-hosted platform you connect those processors directly and are not tied to one.

Can I sell CBD cosmetics and skincare online?

Yes. We migrate CBD cosmetics, topicals and skincare ranges - our reference hemptouch.com is exactly this category - to a self-hosted store built for it.

Do you handle EU CBD compliance?

Yes. We set up per-region shipping rules, disclaimers, COA display and account for EU considerations such as novel food and per-country legality.

Will I lose SEO rankings moving my CBD store off Shopify?

No, with proper URL mapping and 301 redirects. We preserve structure and metadata so rankings carry over.

Is migration really free?

On larger projects we frequently absorb the migration cost as part of the engagement. Send your store details and we will tell you where you stand.
