You have probably heard of emails about abandoned carts but have you ever thought about SMS messages? In an online store, it is very important for us to convert as many visitors as possible into our customers. We optimize advertising campaigns, adjust the offer and functionalities in the store, but still, some customers abandon their cart just before purchase. Some can be caught with emails about abandoned carts, but SMS messages about abandoned carts get an even better response.
Why are SMS messages effective?
The main difference is that we always have a phone at hand and we monitor messages and calls. Email usually takes some time to check. Personally, I have a habit of checking emails only every few days outside of working hours.
We usually check all SMS messages, while some emails quickly end up in promotional messages or we don't read them at all because we already know it's an advertisement that might not interest us at that time.
Many purchases are impulsive, meaning they are relevant to us for a while and then we forget about them and they are no longer relevant. With SMS messages, we can quickly remind the visitor about the abandoned cart, and the likelihood of convincing the visitor to complete the purchase is much higher.

How do SMS messages work for abandoned carts?
When a visitor comes to the cart, they usually fill in all the fields for the address first and then proceed to the next steps. Similar to emails, when entering the phone number in the field, a process is triggered that sends the phone number information to the notification system. Then the system, if it detects that the visitor has not made a purchase at a certain frequency, sends a message with a link to the store to the entered number.
The frequency and number of messages can be set via the control panel.
When are SMS messages still useful for an online store?
Just like with emails, we can also run a campaign with SMS messages. For example, now it's "Black Friday" and we can send messages to everyone to check out our time-limited offer. We can send customers Christmas or New Year greetings, etc. There are many promotional possibilities once we build a database.
