Where to edit which text

Text in your shop can be a page, a block, a widget, a setting or a translation. This article explains how to tell which is which and where to edit it.

The question we hear most often: "Where do I change this text?" The answer depends on what kind of text it is. There are five kinds, and each has its own place in the admin.

Five kinds of text

KindHow to recognise itWhere to edit it
Pagehas its own title in the browser (about us, terms, delivery)Content › Elements › Pages
Blocka piece of content that appears in several places or inside a page (a strip in the footer, a notice, text on the home page)Content › Elements › Blocks
Widgeta block or product list placed in a specific spot on a page (sidebar, below the products)Content › Elements › Widgets
Settingshort text tied to a function: payment method name, bank transfer instructions, store details, terms and conditions, logoStores › Configuration or Content › Design › Configuration
Translationbutton and field labels you never typed in yourself (Add to Cart, Proceed to Checkout, You have no items in your shopping cart)managed by Degriz - write to us
Quick test: if you can find the text by searching the Pages or Blocks list (the search box above the list), edit it there. If it is nowhere to be found, it is a setting or a translation.

Content › Design › Configuration › (store view) › Edit › Header

The Header section in the design configuration with the logo image
  1. Logo Image - Upload adds a new file (PNG or SVG, transparent background).
  2. Welcome Text - a short line in the header, if your theme shows it.
  3. Logo Image Alt - the shop name for search engines and screen readers.

Under Logo Image, click Upload, choose the file and click Save Configuration. Then flush the cache. Some themes set the logo elsewhere (for example in the theme settings); if it does not change after you replace it, write to us.

Terms and conditions at checkout

Stores › Terms and Conditions

  1. Open an existing condition or click Add New Condition.

The list of terms and conditions with the Add New Condition button
Each language has its own condition (Store View column).
  2. Fill in Condition Name, choose Enabled under Status and the language under Store View. Checkbox Text is the label next to the checkbox (for example "I agree to the terms and conditions"), and Content is the text that opens when it is clicked.

  3. Under Applied, choose Manually if the customer has to tick the box themselves. Click Save Condition.

The terms only appear at checkout if Enable Terms and Conditions is switched on in Stores › Configuration › Sales › Checkout › Checkout Options. The full terms text is usually also a page (Content › Elements › Pages) that the footer links to.

Widgets

Content › Elements › Widgets

A widget places a block, a product list or a link in a specific spot on a page (for example the Contact block in the sidebar of the Contact page). In the list you see the Widget (name), the Type (for example CMS Static Block) and the Design Theme. If the text is in a widget of the CMS Static Block type, edit the text in the block itself, not in the widget. New widgets and their positions are usually set up by us.

Translations

Labels that are part of the shop (buttons, field names, error messages, "Add to Cart") live in the language pack, which we maintain. If you would like a different label, write to us with what it says now and what it should say. The change applies everywhere the label appears.

You enter this text for each store language separately. In the scope switcher at the top left choose the language (store view), clear Use Default Value next to the field and enter the translation.

Common problems

I corrected the text, but the shop still shows the old one

Flush the cache (how) and refresh the page. Also check that you edited the block for the right language.

I find the same text in two blocks

One is probably for the Slovenian and the other for the English store view, or one is an old, unused copy. Open both and check Store View and Enable Block.
