Statements can arrive by themselves: by e-mail in a dedicated mailbox or as files in a folder on the server.
Before you start
- a dedicated mailbox for statements (recommended; do not use your main mailbox),
- online banking set up to send statements to that address as an XML or CSV attachment,
- a working cron (the module checks the mailbox on a schedule).
1. The mailbox
Stores › Configuration › Magelan › Bank reconciliation › Sources
Turn on Read statements from a mailbox and enter the IMAP host, port, encryption, user name and password. The password is stored encrypted. Gmail and Microsoft 365 usually need an app password or OAuth; the normal account password does not work. Optionally enter a sender to accept messages from.
Press Test connection. The result is always one plain sentence: connected (with the number of unread messages and those with an attachment), login failed, certificate not trusted, no answer from the server or folder not found (with the list of folders). The test only counts, it marks nothing as read.
2. The server folder
Turn on Read statements from a server folder (default var/bankrec/inbox). Files dropped here by your bank automation or a sync tool are imported and moved to processed/, unreadable ones to failed/.
3. How often
Choose the frequency in Check every. The same schedule applies to the mailbox and the folder.
Common problems
Login failed
The provider rejects the normal password. Create an app password, or use a mailbox with a provider that allows password login.
The certificate is not trusted
Fix the server certificate. Turn on Trust the server certificate only for a self-signed certificate.
The server folder cannot be written to
The web user needs write access to the folder (permissions 0750) because the module moves processed files out of it.
