Customers who order many different products at once (for example wholesale buyers) do not want to click through the catalogue. They prepare a spreadsheet with SKUs and quantities, upload it to the shop, and the shop fills their cart. This only works for logged-in customers; guests do not see the link.
What the customer sees
After logging in, they have an Import Order link in the shop header, and an Import Your Order button on the My Orders page.
A window with a form opens. The customer chooses a CSV, XLS or XLSX file and clicks Import & Order.
The shop adds the products to the cart and takes the customer straight to checkout. A message at the top shows how many lines were added.
Below the form there are two links, Download Sample CSV and Download Sample XLSX. The customer opens the sample in Excel, enters their own lines and saves it.
How the file must be set up
| Column | Content |
|---|---|
sku | the product SKU, exactly as it is in the shop |
qty | the quantity (a whole number) |
The first row holds the column names sku and qty, and every row after that is one product. For CSV it does not matter whether the values are separated by commas, semicolons or tabs. For Excel, the first sheet is read.
Reordering from an old order
In the My Orders list and on each order page there is an Export to XLS link. The customer gets a file with the same sku and qty columns, filled with what the order contained. They adjust the quantities and import it back. This way a wholesale customer can repeat their monthly order in two clicks.
What happens to products that are out of stock
The same rules apply as when adding to the cart by hand. If a product is out of stock or the quantity requested is too high, that line is not added; see stock and pre-orders and backorders for selected customer groups.
Common problems
The customer gets a message that the file has no sku and qty columns
The first row of the file must contain exactly the words sku and qty (upper or lower case does not matter). Ask the customer to download the sample and enter their data in it.
No products were added to the cart
None of the SKUs in the file match the SKUs in the shop. Often the file contains supplier codes or the customer's own internal codes. The customer should use the shop's SKUs or an export of an old order.
The customer cannot see the Import Order link
The link is only shown to logged-in customers. If they are logged in and still cannot see it, write to us.
