Shoe size finder: setup and data

The shopper enters the length of his foot and sees the models that have a fitting size in stock. Choose how the size is found, prepare the data (inside measurements or a size table) and check that it works.

The finder is a strip under the header. The shopper enters the length of his foot and sees the shoes that have his size in stock. On the product page the module suggests the size.

Before you start

  • configurable products with sizes (a size attribute, for example shoe_size),
  • either the inside length of the shoe on every size, or a size table by foot length.

1. Choose how the size is found

Stores › Configuration › Magelan › Shoe Size Guide

In How the size is found choose By products if the sizes have the inside length in millimetres, otherwise By size table.

2. Prepare the data

By products: in FootFinder Attributes enter the attribute codes for the size, the inside length and optionally the inside width. The inside length is the value of a select attribute, for example 175 (mm). A shoe fits when its inside length is 5 to 22 mm longer than the foot; you can change these limits.

By size table: in FootFinder Size Table add rows: for whom, foot from and to (mm), and the size. They must not overlap. If you have no table, a developer can create one with the command that uses the Paris point formula; check it against your brands.

3. Choose where the strip appears

The field Where it appears: home, categories, search and products (default), every page, or only a button on product pages. Start minimized opens the strip only when the shopper presses the button.

4. Try it

Open the home page, enter a foot length and check that the expected models appear. Open a model: the row "For your measurement" should suggest a size.

The foot measurement is kept only in the shopper's browser, with a "Forget my measurement" button. Whether that needs consent depends on the country; if in doubt, switch Remember the measurement off.

Common problems

The search finds no model

In the by-products mode check that the sizes have an inside length (the check command tells). Check also that the sizes are in stock and the products are enabled and visible in the catalog.

I cannot save the size table

Intervals of the same set must not overlap and "to" must not be smaller than "from". The message names the row that is wrong.

The strip does not appear

Check that the finder is enabled and that the page is among those chosen in "Where it appears". In the cart and the checkout the strip is off by default.
