About the module

What it does.

“E-mail and SMS cost money, and fewer people open them.” Browser notifications are sent by the store itself, and the subscriber list stays in its own database.

What it looks like in practice

A visitor looks at a second page and after 20 seconds sees your store’s polite invitation. Only after they press “Yes” does the browser ask for permission. Next week you prepare a campaign in the admin with a title, text and image, check the preview and send it now or at a chosen time. A notification that would arrive at night waits until morning.

What changes

A polite invitation, not an instant prompt. The store shows its own invitation first and the browser’s prompt only after “Yes”. By default it appears from the second page view and after 20 seconds, never in the checkout and never on top of the cookie banner. After “Not now” it does not ask again for 14 days.
Campaigns with a title, image and buttons. Title, text, link, image and up to two buttons; send now or at a chosen time. Previews for Windows, macOS, Android and iPhone, plus test devices.
Not at night, not too often. By default messages wait until morning between 21:00 and 08:00, and promotional ones are limited to 1 per 24 hours and 3 per 7 days per subscriber. You set all of it yourself.
Invitations where they make sense. On a sold-out product and after an order the customer can ask for a notification, and manages their devices and topics in their account.
See what it brings. Subscribers, opt-in rate, sent messages, clicks, and orders and revenue after a click.

Who it is for

Stores with regular offers or news that want one more channel next to e-mail, without another monthly subscription.

How you set it up

You switch the module on under Marketing › Push notifications › Start and status: the keys and the server script are created for you, and the page checks https, cron and the icon and tells you what to fix. The settings are in Stores › Configuration › Magelan › Push Notifications.

Good to know

The module is an early (alpha) version: sending, the invitation, campaigns, quiet hours and the overview are there. Automatic messages (welcome, back in stock, price drop, abandoned cart, parcel on its way) are not included yet.
It needs https and a working cron. It works on Luma and Hyvä themes.
Notifications are always delivered by the service of the visitor’s browser (Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft); the content is encrypted.
On iPhone and iPad only a store added to the home screen can receive notifications.

How to install it.

You get the module from our private Composer repository; we send you the user name and access key after purchase. We can install it for you, or whoever looks after your store can run these commands in the root of the Magento 2 store (replace UPORABNIK and DOSTOPNI_KLJUC with the user name and access key you received):

Where do I get the user name and the access key?

After the purchase we send you the access key by e-mail. Keep it safe: for security it is shown only once and we do not keep it in readable form. The user name (your project code) and all the commands, ready to copy, are in your account under My account > Module licences.

The Parcel on its way message has a new Automatic choice. If another module (Signal) manages sending and its shipment flow is off, all devices get the parcel message, so signed-in customers are never left without it.
The Automated messages page states in one sentence who sends the parcel message and warns if customers would get none.
Your existing choices are not changed.

When another module manages sending, you can choose devices for each automated message separately: off, only devices without a customer, all devices, or same as the general choice.
Sensible defaults for welcome, abandoned cart, price drop, back in stock and parcel messages.
Upgrading keeps what you had already chosen.

Connection to other modules: Signal can send push notifications through WebPush with the SignalPush bridge module, as a channel of its campaigns and flows.
A mode where another module manages sending: the campaign editor is hidden, history and reports stay.
New Push invitation widget (Luma and Hyvä): one quiet line with a button that never shows to people who already subscribed or said no. On iPhone it opens the Add to Home Screen steps.
WebPush on its own works as before.

The five built-in automated messages are not affected.

The licence includes updates for the Magento versions on the supported list.
