Magento and OpenMage are rapidly evolving and experiencing several major changes. Magento 2 is currently available in version 2.4.6, while for OpenMage, the unofficial development for Magento 1.9, versions 19.5 and 20.1 are available. In the following, we will present the main changes for both systems. Upgrading the store is recommended as it makes the system more secure, adds additional functionalities, and usually also improves performance.
Magento 2.4.6 updates

Additionally, with the release of the ChatGPT tool, there are also some additional paid modules available that can help you write product descriptions. We will present more about this in future blogs.
Openmage 19.5 and 20.1 updates
This is a major release, so they decided to move away from version 19.4.x and transition to 19.5.x and 20.1.x.
Main changes include:
- Change of library inclusions (phpseclib, mcrypt_compat, Cm_RedisSession, Cm_Cache_Backend_Redis, and Pelago_Emogrifier and Zend Framework)
- Library version updates and removal of obsolete modules
- Change in the inclusion of inherited themes
- Added support for Google Analytics 4 (additional events were not included, so we developed our own module)

The newer version already supports PHP 8.1, while testing for version 8.2 is still ongoing. Note that additional modules need to be adapted to support this PHP version, which in many cases significantly improves the performance of the online store.
