Your customers are just looking and NOT buying?

Inspire them to make a purchase!

“Just looking.” Each of us has used this phrase in a store when a salesperson approached us with a questioning look just as we were checking out a new electric lawnmower or red shoes. In a physical store, a good salesperson with skillful language and a sparkle in their eye can make a customer eagerly reach for their wallet, but this genuine personal contact is missing in an online store. However, don't despair, all is not lost. We present to you eight (8) of our suggestions on how you can encourage your visitors to make a purchase. And no, we didn't say force them :).

1. Choose your words carefully.

Every online retailer dreams of the ideal customer who visits the website, sees the item/offer/service, gets excited, and immediately makes a purchase. In reality, the average person returns to the site 7 times before deciding to buy. So, how can you inspire your visitors to finally make a purchase? The simplest and easiest method is to write your offer text in such a way that when writing descriptions of your products or services, highlight the solutions you offer for your visitors' problems, the advantages your items have (not features) in meeting their needs. Pay attention to using the right choice of words. Words that sell: discounted, new, savings, don't miss, unique opportunity, only X days, free, only, already, ...

2. Offer time-limited or quantity-limited promotions.

Quantity or time-limited offers are often a good reason to buy. If you have a limited stock of items, you can highlight, for example, the message “Only x items left in stock.” Try offering your items within a time-limited offer, a quantity-limited offer, a daily or weekly discount, or offer them free shipping.

3. Use colors to your advantage

Different colors have different effects on people's brains. For example, gray color makes us feel bored. Green color is proven to make us think of nature and interestingly, money. Red and orange colors and their shades stimulate a sense of urgency and thus purchasing. You don't have to repaint your website in red or orange, we suggest using their influence in strategic places, for example, color an arrow red to highlight a CTA (“Call to Action”) or color the cart button orange.

4. Be available for questions

If visitors to your website or potential customers cannot find the necessary information about the products they need in real-time, they may quickly give up on the purchase and leave your website and go to the competition. Here, live chat can be of great help. Online entrepreneurs who added “live chat” to their online store experienced a significant increase in sales, some up to 40%. And this is just because they were able to answer visitors' questions related to product delivery, their size, and more, without them leaving their product page.

Many use Olark technology, which has an existing Magento module and is an excellent solution for sales agents and client service representatives. However, there are many other similar help or live chat options for Magento sellers that have the same features (reporting, client communication, seamless integration, web application appearance, etc.), such as Zopim, which offers you a 14-day free trial to first verify its functionality.

5. Use real customer reviews

Your customers are the ones who use your items or your services. Give them the opportunity to express their opinion! Not only because you can get invaluable feedback about your items or service, but you can also (with your customers' consent) use their opinions to impress potential buyers about the quality of your offer.

6. Observe your visitors' behavior

Monitor activities on your website. Who and when made a purchase, how customers found their way to your website, and what they do on it are essential questions you need to know how to answer. If possible, personalize the website content for existing customers, offer packages that match their past purchases, or offer them a benefit for their next purchase. If you notice they want to leave your website, you can display a pop-up with an offer just for them: free shipping or a discount code. We suggest importing your product catalog to Facebook and with Facebook dynamic ads display only the items they have shown interest in.

7. Remind with an email

Very often it happens that visitors to the online store look at the desired item and its description, add it to the cart, and then for various reasons do not complete the purchase. If they entered their email address in the cart, you can remind them. Quite a few people will be grateful for the gesture, and you can gain new customers or motivate existing ones to make a new purchase. You can help yourself with the email notification module. Use cases of the module are for abandoned carts, user inactivity (message after a few months of inactivity), a week after purchase, a year after purchase, upon non-payment of the proforma invoice, etc.

8. Thank them with a small token.

Congratulations, your visitors have successfully made a purchase on your website. Your work is far from over. To ensure they repeat the purchase, we suggest you make sure they receive the package at the agreed time, at the right address, without unnecessary complications. To make them remember you, include a small token in the package – a discount code, a cute message, or a useful gift. Success will not be absent!

Each of us has reservations when shopping, especially if we don't have enough information about the desired item. In an online store, quality and customer care are paramount. Therefore, it is essential to provide visitors with well-written texts with real and relevant information, an eye-pleasing design, time and quantity-limited offers, extensions with the possibility of direct contact, and a clear, logical, and simple purchase process. With a small gift or message, you will make an exceptional impression on them.
