Gift cards
You sell gift cards like any other product, and the code reaches the customer only once the invoice is paid. A new sales channel and often a new customer.

About the module
What it does.
"Customers keep asking whether we have gift cards they can give to someone." Without them you skip a sale that often brings in a new customer too.
What it looks like in practice
A customer picks a 50 EUR card and pays for it like any other product. Once the invoice is paid, the code arrives by e-mail with a printable PDF voucher in your logo and colours. They give it to someone, who enters the code in the cart or at checkout, and the amount is deducted as a payment. If the card is not used up, the balance stays on the card.
What changes
- The card is an ordinary product. You set the amounts (20, 50 and 100 by default) in the settings, one command creates the card products, and you sell them like any other product.
- The code is issued only on a paid invoice. The customer receives it by e-mail together with a printable PDF voucher styled to your brand (logo, colours, texts).
- Redeemed as a payment, not a discount. The card is deducted in the cart or at checkout as a payment and can be redeemed in part; the balance stays on the card.
- You stay in control in the back office. Overview of cards and movements, manual issue with an expiry date, balance correction, resending the code, and protection against code guessing.
Who it is for
For stores that want to sell gift cards, for example for the holidays or as a quick present. A free-choice amount is not part of the package: you sell cards in the amounts you set.
How you set it up
In the admin under Stores › Configuration › Magelan › Gift cards you set the amounts, validity (five years by default), code length, the look of the PDF voucher and the e-mail. One command then creates the card products.
Good to know
- Set the gift card product to a tax class without VAT: VAT is charged only when the card is redeemed. Confirm the arrangement with your accountant.
- The redemption form in the cart and the line in the totals belong to the theme (Hyvä cart, Knockout checkout), so we adapt them to your theme during installation.
- By default it refuses gift cards for public institutions (configurable), because a card covering the whole order would remove the purchase order and the e-invoice.
- A free-choice card amount is not part of the package.

How to install it.
We install the module from our repository with Composer. We send you the user name and access key for the repository after purchase. If you prefer, we install it for you.
In the root of the Magento 2 store run the commands (replace UPORABNIK and DOSTOPNI_KLJUC with the user name and access key you received):

In the admin open Stores › Configuration › Magelan › Gift cards.
- Enter the card amounts (e.g. 20,50,100), the validity and the code length.
- Run
bin/magento magelan:giftcard:seed-productsto create the card products (existing ones are not overwritten). - Set the card products to a tax class without VAT.
- In the PDF voucher group upload the logo and choose colours and texts, then save and clear the cache.
Adapting the theme (the form in the cart) is part of the installation, so we recommend we do it for you.
Where do I get the user name and the access key?
After the purchase we send you the access key by e-mail. Keep it safe: for security it is shown only once and we do not keep it in readable form. The user name (your project code) and all the commands, ready to copy, are in your account under My account > Module licences.
