A short introduction stays above the products, and you put the longer text for customers and Google below the product list.

A category has two texts. The description appears above the products and the long description below them. Customers see the products straight away, and Google still finds a longer text about the category on the page.

Catalog › Categories

  2. Expand the Content section.

  3. Write the text in the Long Description field. Use the editor buttons to add subheadings, lists and links.

  4. Click Save and flush the cache (how).

A good long description has 150 to 400 words, one or two subheadings and answers customers' questions: who the products are for, how to choose, what to look out for. It should not be a list of keywords.
You enter this text for each store language separately. In the scope switcher at the top left choose the language (store view), clear Use Default Value next to the field and enter the translation.
