A tier price (3 items for 10 EUR) and a customer group price (business partners pay 8 EUR) apply in Magento until you delete them. With the module, you add a start and end date to each such price: a promotion like 5 items at a lower price until the end of the month switches itself off after that date, and you don't have to delete anything.
Entering a price with a validity period
Catalog › Products › (product)
Under the Price field, click Advanced Pricing.

Advanced Pricing - opens the window with tier prices. In the Customer Group Price table, click Add. In the new row, choose the Website and Customer Group (ALL GROUPS for all shoppers), enter the Quantity from which the price applies, and the Price. For the price type, you can choose Discount instead of Fixed and enter a percentage.
The same row has the From and To fields. Choose the start and end date. An empty field means no limit: only To means valid until this day, and only From means valid from this day on.

- Add - new row.
- Quantity - the quantity from which the price applies.
- Price - Fixed or Discount and the amount.
- From - start of the period.
- To - end of the period (inclusive).
Click Done and then Save.
What shoppers see
While the period is valid, the product page shows a line under the price such as Buy 3 for €10.00 each and save 15%, and the cart charges the lower price once the quantity is high enough. When the period ends, the line disappears and the regular price applies. A price entered for a customer group is only shown to logged-in shoppers in that group.
Common problems
The price doesn't show yet on the start date
The store recalculates prices when the product is saved and during regular refreshes. If the price hasn't appeared by the morning of the start date, open the product and save it again, or write to us.
After the period has ended, the lower price is still in the cart
The shopper has had the product in the cart since the promotion. At the next checkout step the price is recalculated to the regular price.
I can't save the product
In one of the rows, the To date is before the From date. The message tells you which row is wrong.
