Location-based redirect

A visitor from another country gets a friendly suggestion to switch to the right store version (language, currency, delivery). Nobody is forced to move.

About the module

What it does.

"A customer from another country lands on the wrong version of the store, sees the wrong language and a price that does not apply to them, and leaves." A forced redirect, on the other hand, annoys people who chose a version on purpose.

What it looks like in practice

A visitor from another country opens your store on a version that does not serve their country. A bar appears asking whether they want to switch to the version for their country. If they click, they switch; if they dismiss it, they do not see it again for a year. Anyone already on the right version never notices the bar.

What changes

A suggestion instead of a redirect. The visitor sees a bar asking whether to switch; they are not redirected, which is better for SEO and does not bother customers who chose a version on purpose.
Countries for each version. For each store view you set the countries it serves; anyone already on the right one does not see the suggestion.
The choice is remembered. If the visitor dismisses the suggestion they do not see it again for a year.
Search engines are excluded. Search engines do not get the suggestion.

Who it is for

For stores with several versions (by language, country or currency) where visitors from abroad land on the wrong one.

How you set it up

Under Stores › Configuration › Magelan › Location suggestion you switch the module on and then choose the countries for each store view. The bar can optionally offer a list of all active store views.

Good to know

The module reads the country from a header sent by the CDN or server (for example Cloudflare), or from Magefan GeoIP if it is installed.
The module has no IP database of its own: without a country source (a CDN header or Magefan GeoIP) it shows no suggestion.
It is off by default.

Installation

How to install it.

We deliver the module from our own repository, installed with Composer. We send you the user name and access key for the repository after purchase. If you prefer, we install and set it up for you.

In the root of the Magento 2 store run the commands (replace UPORABNIK and DOSTOPNI_KLJUC with the user name and access key you received):

Where do I get the user name and the access key?

After the purchase we send you the access key by e-mail. Keep it safe: for security it is shown only once and we do not keep it in readable form. The user name (your project code) and all the commands, ready to copy, are in your account under My account > Module licences.
