Online stores: Frequently asked questions

Recently, we have been receiving more and more inquiries, so we have prepared a list of frequently asked questions that will help many who are deciding on an online store. For additional questions, we are always available to you.

"Hello, I am planning to start my own business soon, so I am reaching out to you with some questions regarding the design and setup of an online store. I apologize in advance for any poorly posed or obvious questions, as I am quite inexperienced in this area. I hope you can provide answers to the questions in a simple and understandable way. In short - the questions that concern me are as follows:"

questions online store1. Is it important where the domain is registered and which server is the host at the beginning of creating an online store? In other words – does the client or your company handle this? If your company handles it, is the chosen option the most cost-effective/competitive?

The online store is accessible on our server during development, so you do not need hosting and a domain until you decide to publish the website. Of course, the store is only accessible with a username and password, so you don't have unwanted visitors and search engines do not index the content.

We offer all our clients free hosting for the first year, so I am confident that we are very competitive. Of course, later if you wish, you can transfer the store to any hosting provider you want, as you have full access to your store. Generally, I believe that I have very good prices and hosting for our clients, so most clients decide to stay on our servers.

2. I want to establish a sole proprietorship that will operate exclusively as an online store. The first impression that the online store will leave on potential customers will be very important for my future business, so I expect my online store to be visually appealing, simple, functional, and user-friendly (for both the buyer and the administrator). I am interested in which "platform" for e-commerce is the most user-friendly?

The first impression that the store makes on visitors is mainly in the form of the page and the adaptation of the store so that the store is clear, the purchase process is simple, and of course, the store is sales-oriented. This means that the store or page must contain elements that encourage sales (promotional coupons, quantity discounts, featured items, useful articles, etc.).

Is it Magento, PrestaShop, ZenCart, OSCommerce, Virtuemart, or something else? Which one do you use in creating online stores? Do these versions differ in price?

We have created stores on all the platforms mentioned above, but recently we have been focusing mainly on Magento. All these stores are free to a certain extent. However, it is usually necessary to pay extra for extensions and customizations. We use Magento because it has proven to be the best in terms of optimization, security, and order processing among all the ones listed above.

Which versions are easiest for a beginner administrator to learn to use? Which one has a future? Is customer training for the management part of the online store included in the final price?

For each store, we offer free initial support and advice. For later assistance, we have instructions in Slovenian, so management is easier. Of course, we are always available for help by phone, email, or Skype. You can also visit the company, where we will be happy to help you.

3. I expect my online store to be recognizable and beautiful. Does the creation of a unique graphic design also include the complete corporate identity (logo, stationery)? Does the decision to create an online store based on an already made template allow the replacement of the "factory" logo with a personal logo? Does creating an online store based on a template reduce the final price?

We strive to make each store unique and tailored to the company so that it allows optimal sales and promotion of the product or service. We create graphic designs ourselves and adapt them to the company's graphic identity. If you do not have a graphic identity, we can also create it for you. Simple logo design for the site is usually included in the price of the online store template, so you do not pay extra for this. If you want to have designs made for other stationery (business cards, envelopes, letterheads, etc.), it is best to contact us for a price.

If you decide on a pre-made graphic template, the final price of the store is lower.

4. I will be selling football equipment through the online store. I expect that the number of products I will initially offer on the market will be relatively small (about 10), but as the scope of business increases, the range of offers will gradually expand. Does your company or the client itself handle the import of later items into the store?

In the store, you are not limited by the number of items, so you can expand the store as desired later. Of course, it is good to know the approximate number of items before starting so that the store can be adapted as best as possible. It is also possible to automatically import items into the store via a CSV file, which is usually done with a larger number of items. If you already use a program that serves to manage your items, a connection with the store can be made, and your data and inventory are automatically updated.

5. Is the online store set up only in Slovenian or also in English?

We set up the store in the language of your choice. You can also have the store in multiple languages.

6. In light of current issues with the euro as a means of payment, I am interested in whether it is possible in the future to change product prices from euros to prices in some other, currently non-existent currency (e.g., mark, tolar)?

Of course, currencies can be changed as desired. It is also possible to integrate the selection of different currencies on the store.

7. Is the display of the online store correct in browsers such as Google Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9, Safari? Will the display of the online store be enabled in the future due to new browser updates?

We make the display so that it is correct in all standard browsers, and things are set up so that with later versions of browsers, everything should display correctly.

8. Purchasing via mobile phones is becoming increasingly important. Is it possible to shop in the online store via iPhone?

Purchasing is possible on all devices through which the page can be displayed. If desired, we can also create a version of the store adapted for the iPhone.

The store also has the option to integrate payment via phone - Moneta.

9. How can the owner/administrator of the online store access the online store? Is there only one access point (e.g., desktop, home computer) or multiple access points (e.g., laptop, iPad, internet cafe)? How and from where can you administratively manage the store? Is it only from home or also on the go?

You can access the store at all locations where you have an internet connection. You have your own username and password to log into the administration.

10. As a future sole proprietor, I have much more limited resources for designing an online store than a large, global company. I want to have a simple yet professional page. I have highlighted some things that seem important to me. I hope you can answer these and other questions and also tell me what cost I can expect when creating an online store.

If you are limited by budget at the beginning, things can be creatively resolved, and a lot of money can be saved. Stores always have the option of expansion and upgrading so that when you grow, you do not have to pay for the store again. You only pay for the extensions you want.
