Discount popup: fine print or checkbox, and privacy

When fine print under the button is enough and when to choose the required checkbox (Germany, Austria), how you link the privacy policy and what to describe in it.

With every sign-up the module stores the time and the exact wording the visitor saw, as proof of consent. If you use Swissup GDPR, the consent is recorded there too.

1. Fine print or a required checkbox

Marketing › Discount Popups › Campaigns › (campaign) › Consents

  • Fine print (signing up = consent), the default: under the button it says that by signing up you agree to receive the newsletter and to the privacy policy. One step less, so more sign-ups.
  • Required checkbox: the shopper has to tick the consent. For German and Austrian store views we recommend the checkbox together with double opt-in.

2. The wording and the privacy policy

In the Texts section, under Privacy policy page, choose your CMS page or leave Automatic (the shop's privacy page). You can rewrite the text under Fine print / consent for each language; %1 in it is the link to the privacy policy. An empty field means the module's wording in the language of the store view.

The privacy wording is yours. In your privacy policy describe that you collect the e-mail address to send the code and the newsletter, how long you keep it and how to unsubscribe. The module is not legal advice.

3. Keeping the data

In the Duration section, Keep sign-up data for sets how many days the module keeps the personal data of sign-ups. After that it anonymises them; the newsletter subscription stays in Magento until the shopper unsubscribes.

A warning that no privacy policy page is linked

The fine print under the button needs a link to a CMS page. Choose it under Texts in Privacy policy page.
