The home page has rows of products with a heading, for example New in or On sale. Each row shows products from one category and links to the whole category. The new arrivals category fills itself: products added in the last few days go in, and old ones drop out automatically.

1. Prepare the category

Catalog › Categories

  1. Create a category, for example New arrivals. If you do not want it in the menu, switch off Include in Menu.

  2. In the Display Settings section, under Display Mode choose Products only and switch on Anchor.

  3. Click Save. Note down the category number (ID), shown in the heading above the form.

2. A category that fills itself

Stores › Configuration › Magelan › New Products Category

  1. In the New products section, under Category enter the ID of the new arrivals category. An empty field means automatic filling is switched off.

  2. Under New for how many days, enter how many days a product counts as new (90 by default).

The New products section with the category and number of days
    1. Category - the ID of the new arrivals category.
    2. New for how many days
  3. Click Save Config.

The shop refreshes the category once an hour. A product counts as new if it was created within the set period or if a "new" period is set on the product itself.

If the category is empty or has too few products, make the period longer. For a shop that rarely adds new products, 365 days makes more sense than 90.

3. Rows on the home page

Stores › Configuration › Magelan › Theme Settings

  1. Expand the Home Settings section.

  2. Under Home Category 1 title, enter the row heading, for example New in, and under Home Category 1 ID the category ID.

Home settings with the titles and IDs of the home categories
    1. Home Category 1 title - the heading of the first row.
    2. Home Category 1 ID
    3. Home Category 2 title
    4. Home Category 2 ID
  3. Fill in the second row the same way (and the third, if your shop's design shows it), for example with the sale category.

  4. Click Save Config and clear the cache.

A row only appears if both the title and the ID are filled in. For another language, choose the store view at the top left and enter the translated title.

Common problems

A row on the home page is empty

The category has no enabled and visible products. For the new arrivals category, make the period longer and wait for the next hour.

A new product has not appeared

The category is refreshed once an hour. Also check that the product is enabled and visible in the catalogue.

The row is not there at all

The title or the ID is missing. Check both, at store view level too.
