Free samples offer the customer a choice of a few products from one category once the cart reaches a value. Each sample is one piece at 0.00.

The customer picks samples in the cart.

Before you start

  • a category with the samples: simple or virtual products, enabled, in stock, without required options,
  • the cart value from which the customer gets samples, and the number of samples.
  1. Open Marketing › Promotions › Free samples.
  2. Choose the sample category. Put real samples in it (a mini size marked "not for sale"); see "Good to know" about VAT on the module page.
  3. Enter the cart value (for example 40) and the number of samples (for example 2).
  4. Click Switch on free samples.

The table below lists the products of the category and the reason when one is not offered (out of stock, disabled, not a simple product).

More tiers, customer groups, texts

In Stores › Configuration › Magelan › Free Samples you add up to three tiers (for example 30 = 1 sample, 60 = 2, 100 = 3), choose customer groups and dates, and change the texts per store view.

If you also use Tiered gifts

One cart uses one ladder: the one with the lower priority number (on a tie, the gift ladder). The module page warns you about it.
