Discount popup: first run (discount pop-up or spin wheel)

On the first-run page you choose the classic discount pop-up or the spin to win wheel, then switch on, look and offer in three steps. You try the pop-up with the preview link before shoppers see it.

The module has two campaign types: the classic discount pop-up (an e-mail address for a single-use code, no game) and the spin to win wheel (the visitor enters an e-mail address, spins and wins a prize). Both share the codes, limits, consents, triggers and statistics. For most stores we recommend the classic pop-up, as it is the quickest way to the first sign-up.

Before you start

  • the offer, for example 10% off the first order, and for how many days the code is valid,
  • a privacy policy page in the store (a CMS page) for the fine print under the button to link to,
  • working outgoing e-mail from the store and cron, because codes and confirmations are sent by e-mail.

1. Choose the type

Marketing › Discount Popups › Campaigns

While you have no campaign, the first-run page What do you want? opens instead of the list. Choose Classic discount pop-up or Spin to win wheel. You can add the other type later; the type of an existing campaign cannot be changed.

The classic pop-up is marked as recommended, the wheel as a game.

2. Switch on, look and offer

The wizard has three steps on one page, with a Live preview on the right that follows every change.

  1. Switch on. Enter the Campaign name (for you only; the title for shoppers is set under Texts), choose the Store views and leave Status at Test (only you see it).

  2. Look. Light, Dark, Christmas or Shop colours (a full palette from one colour), and the layout Card with a picture or Card without a picture. The picture should be 4:5, at least 832 x 1040 px.

  3. Offer. Under What the shopper gets choose a percentage discount, an amount off, free shipping, an existing cart price rule or no discount, then the value and The code is valid for. Details are in Discount popup: offer and code.

The wizard: on every step you see on the right how the pop-up will look.

Click Save as test. On save the module creates its cart price rule and the texts in the language of each store view.

3. Try it in the store and switch it on

In the campaign click Preview in the shop. A signed link opens and shows you the pop-up at once, also in test status; other visitors do not see it. A preview never creates a code.

What the shopper sees: the offer, the e-mail field and fine print with a link to the privacy policy.

When you are happy, set Status to On (all visitors) or click Save and switch on.

By default the pop-up shows after 8 seconds or on exit intent, on phones also after 20 seconds idle, on a quick scroll back up or a return to the tab. Never in the cart, the checkout or the customer account. After closing it rests for 30 days.

Spin to win wheel

For a wheel you edit prizes instead of one offer: discounts, free shipping or another try, each with its own weight. The editor shows the odds as you go and warns about valuable prizes. The server draws the prize and the wheel only shows it; the odds are published in the pop-up and on the rules page. For a wheel also enter the organiser (company and address) in the form and consents section.

I do not see the pop-up in the store

In test status you only see it through Preview in the shop. If the campaign is on, check whether you closed it recently (pause after closing), whether you already get the newsletter (by default it is hidden from subscribers) and whether a cookie banner is open, which the pop-up waits for.

A warning that guests cannot subscribe
