Discount popup: moving from Newsletter Popup

You move the Newsletter Popup settings into a classic discount pop-up with one click or command. The new campaigns start in test mode, and subscribers stay in Magento.

Newsletter Popup is a newsletter sign-up pop-up without a discount code. Its successor is the Discount popup (Magelan_SpinWheel 1.1): a classic pop-up that can also give a single-use code, detects exit intent, waits for the cookie banner and has statistics. You move the settings without retyping them.

Before you start

  • the Discount popup module installed (package degriznet/m2_spinwheel),
  • keep Newsletter Popup switched on until you have tried the new campaigns.

1. Import in the admin

Marketing › Discount Popups › Campaigns

While Newsletter Popup is switched on, the campaigns page shows the Import from Newsletter Popup button. The import creates one classic pop-up per store view where Newsletter Popup is on, with the offer no discount so the behaviour does not change, and in test status, so nothing switches on by itself. The heading and text, picture, time or number of pages, pause after closing and the consent wording are moved.

Subscribers are not moved, because they stay in Magento (Marketing › Newsletter Subscribers).

2. The same from the command line

php bin/magento magelan:spinwheel:import-newsletterpopup --dry-run
php bin/magento magelan:spinwheel:import-newsletterpopup

With --store=ID you import one store view only, and --enable switches the campaigns on at once (not recommended; try them first).

3. Try it, add a discount and switch over

  1. Open the new campaign and try it in the store with Preview in the shop.

  2. If you want, choose a discount in the Offer section, for example 10% off the first order (offer and code).

  3. Switch the campaign on and switch Newsletter Popup off right away, or shoppers see two pop-ups.

While both modules are on for the same store view, a notice in the campaign tells you so. Magelan pop-ups never open over each other, but one pop-up is enough.
It says Nothing to import

Newsletter Popup is not switched on in any store view, so there are no settings to move. Create a new campaign on the first-run page (first run).

It says it was imported already

Every store view already has its imported campaign; the import does not duplicate it. For a new version, duplicate the campaign with the Duplicate button.
