A ladder can apply only when the customer enters a coupon code in the cart. Without the code the customer sees no progress towards a gift and gets no gift. This way you offer the gift to selected customers only, for example newsletter subscribers.
Before you start
- a gift ladder (see creating a gift ladder),
- the code you will share, for example GIFT.
1. Create a rule with the code
Marketing › Promotions › Cart Price Rules
The code must exist as a cart price rule, otherwise the store does not accept it. The rule needs no discount.
Click Add New Rule, enter a name, choose the website and customer groups.
Under Coupon choose Specific Coupon and enter the code, for example GIFT.
In the Actions section leave Discount Amount at 0. If you want a discount as well as the gift, set it here.
Click Save.
2. Enter the code in the ladder
Marketing › Promotions › Tiered gifts
Open the ladder and enter the same code in Valid only with coupon code. Upper and lower case do not matter. Save.
3. Try it
Without the code the cart shows no ladder. When you enter the code, the progress appears, and the gift once the threshold is reached. If the customer removes the code, the gift disappears.
